Aggie is 10 years old and was diagnosed with Cone Rod Dystrophy shortly after her 7th birthday and is now registered SSI. She has no central vision and poor peripheral vision. But this does not stop her.
She loves to sing and dance and is part of a local musical theatre school. She has performed in numerous musicals and pantomimes with the theatre school - next week she is playing the part of Tamatoa (the big jewel-obsessed crab) in Moana. She is also part of their youth choir. She has piano lessons and as it has got harder to read music, she uses her fantastic memory and learns by memorising what she is taught.
Aggie’s favorite subject at school is maths, followed by Braille. She spends 5 hours a week with her QTVI and has been learning Braille for almost three years now. She is supported in school by a TA and she is learning to use her white cane.
Aggie is a member of the local Scout group having just moved up from Cubs. She loves being out on her bike, camping, and playing out with her friends and cousins. Aggie is blessed to have an amazing 12-year-old sister, Emily, who assists Aggie with her videos and I’m sure much more.
When she is older, Aggie would like to be a restaurant critic so she can advise restaurants on how to cater for Visually Impaired guests.. and a part-time actress!
Aggie creates a lot of fantastic YouTube videos that show how she tackles living with sight loss. These videos include using her white cane, air dry clay modelling and even how her parents have made navigating the house easier. I’m sure Aggie would be delighted to share her knowledge with you.
